oil level sensor leaking oil?

I have a '99 Montana w/ 134,000 miles on it. I noticed some oil on the bottom of the pan leaking onto the ground. Just a drop or two a day but a little annoying. I looks like it is losing it from the oil level sensor on the bottom of the oil pan (no oil running down the side of the engine, only wet on the bottom). Anyone have any experience with this problem or fixing it? The part is a little under $25 at the dealer and it looks like only one bolt holds it in so looks pretty easy.

Re: oil level sensor leaking oil?

I've not heard of the sensor leaking, but anything's possible. Why don't you just replace the o-ring on the sensor, or does it not come separately?

My manual says to drain the oil, and remove the retaining bolt, then the sensor. It says to torque the bolt to 10 N-m or 84 in-lbs.

Good luck....Glen

Re: oil level sensor leaking oil?

I asked the guy at the dealership and he said after a while they have developed leaks and you can't just buy the o-ring. I'm replacing the whole unit at the next oil change, $19.XX before tax for the part.
