91 b2600i blower problems

I think I have a blower resistor problem - the blower only works in the "4" position, the air conditioner compressor only comes on in the "1" position. My problem is I'm not sure where exactly I should be looking to find the resistor - and what it looks like. I read elsewhere that it is behind the right vent inside the blower housing. Do I take the whole housing off, or does that part come off by itself? Do I need to take the entire dashboard apart, or can I access this resistor through the glove box area? I've got a chilton manual - but it hasn't been very helpful in telling me where to look, although there is a sketch of what I think is the resistor. I have a 1991 B2600i pickup. If anyone out there has replaced this resistor and could give me an idea of where I should be looking and what I'm looking for, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Had the same trouble with my 90 2200 and never did find the resistor. I do know its there, you cant get it from AutoZone or Advance (its a dealer part) and that affects more than just the heat as you found also(Air Cond).
I will continue looking for more info and post it IF I find it. Good luck.

Thanks for your interest. I'm looking too - meanwhile I have my glove box out of my truck!

more info on blower resistors

I found the following information at http://forums.vmag.com/ptbseries/

The fan resistor is located behind the glovebox. Take a Phillips Screwdriver or better yet, a CORDLESS SCREWDRIVER with a Phillips bit. Remove the glovebox lid, then the latch on the box and next the glovebox itself. The resistor has two bolts that holds it in. Remove the bolts, pull the resistor out easy and disconnect the electrical connector. The installation process is just the reverse. A 10-minute job. Just be careful installing the resistor. I hope, I helped you and "KEEP ON TRUCK'IN".

: I am looking for information or diagrams on the A/c resistor block. I am trying to locate it.
: Thanks
The resistor box is located on the top of the heater blower box. Easiest access is via removal of the glovebix. The resistor block is located on the top right hand side. Removal requires removing 2 screws. They're available at the Mazda dealerships for $34.00.
Hope this helps!
