01 Denali stalls when turning??

This happened to me a few months ago and today it happened 3 times in less than 15 minutes.

When i'm turning at very low speeds the car just stalls. Any thoughts on what may be causing this??

I also have a 2001 Denali and the same thing has been happening to me! And here I thought I was the only one!

Same thing for me, when I crank the wheel at slow speeds, it shudders and wants to stall. It has never stalled on me, but it has stalled in a parking lot when my wife was driving it alone. It happens to me now each time when I perform slow turns like in parking lots, etc.

For some reason, I am suspecting that it has something to do with the power steering. I bought the extended warranty so I just need to take it in.

Out of curiosity, did you AC compressor seize up? Mine did at about 35,000 miles! They had to flush the entire AC system and then again because cool air wasn't getting to the rear passengers. Amazing that this happened so early. It was fully covered with the extended warranty, minus the $100 deductible.

Never again will I buy a brand new model the first year it comes out.

My car is doing the exact same thing you described. My wife said it happened to her once too.

My car only has 36,000 miles so I'm a little upset this is happening so early. I've added power steering fluid but made no difference.

Is it hard for you to turn at very low speeds also?

The AC hasn't acted up on me yet though but my seat warmer on the driver's seat is broken.

Can you tell what the dealer says when you take your car in? I didn't buy the extended warranty and I sorta don't want to pay them a grip of money to look at it.

Re: 01 Denali stalls when turning??

We only have 42,000 miles on our 2001 so it's just getting warmed up, too.

Yeps, turning at slow speeds makes my heart drop just waiting for the car to die.

I'll post their findings when I do take it in. Our seat warmers are still OK, but the "Auto" window doesn't work either so I'll have to have then fix that, too.

I mainly bought the extended warranty because this is the first american car I've bought. I had a 73 Datsun 610 wagon and now we have a 98 Prelude SH, 01 Denali and an 05 TL. Just might be the last american car we buy, but time will tell.

I will be taking my Denali in tomorrow to have them take a look at it. I will post their recommendations and findings when they have finished the service work.

Re: 01 Denali stalls when turning??

I dropped it off, but due to the holiday weekend, I might not get it back until next week.

Initially they said that they will check to see if I have the current PCM program for my chip. They say a lot of the time, updating the software on the PCM resolves a lot of issues. I'll post more when I get her back!

Merry Xmas!

Re: 01 Denali stalls when turning??

I have an 01 Yukon XL and had the same problem, dealer cleaned out the throttle body(carbon build up I think) and cured the problem, I believe if you search this site you will find how to remedy the problem yourself.

Re: Re: 01 Denali stalls when turning??

I spoke with the dealership and they said they updated the PCM module version and also cleaned out the throttle body. I also had them fix my auto down window on the drivers side since the extended warranty is a fix for 1 or 1 million covered problems on a single visit.

I'm waiting to pickup our 01 Denali until some insurance work is done as well (front grill and headlights got smacked by some crap on the freeway). After I pickup out truck I will have the work orders in hand and can type up exactly what they did to resolve the problem.

The service guy said the PCM update changes several settings including idle speed, etc.

Hope this has been helpful. Glad it only costs me $100 with the warranty. Once I read up on cleaning the throttle body myself, I'll include doing this if possible on oil changes, etc.
