screeching, please help

I just bought a 95 trooper today and when i got home and let the car cool down, I started it back up and there was a loud screeching for about 15-20 seconds. Seems to be louder/longer the colder the car is. What could this be? Any ideas of how much it is going to cost to fix it. I should have known something was wrong when the guy selling it to me would have it started and warmed up everytime i drove it.

Sounds like a loose belt.
Price to fix... $0.00 (if you have a couple of wrenches and don't mind crawling under your Trooper).

How do I know if the belts are loose? Can i tell from just looking or should I just go under and try tightening all bets?

If you're that DUMB, you better take it to a mechanic and let him charge you $200 to fix it.

I think I have the same problem. Loud screeching for about 10 seconds. Someone told me to spray hair spray on my belt.

I think I'll try tightening them up and see what happens. To the guy that got an education, I've got one two and currently am working on two master's degrees.

Listen, grab ur wrenches, crawl under the car, fix the problem, and then go back and brag to all you're tie-wearing buddies about what a handy man you are.

IIRC- on the V-belt equipped 3.2's, the belt to the alternator tends to loosen up & slip on startup. Use the tensioner on the alternator bracket to take up the slack.
