97 3.3L stall issue
Mom's GC crapped out recently. 150K miles and it starts to stall under acceleration, she says "it felt like there was no gas going to it, then it'd make a sound like i think means a backfire." Seeing as the timing chain hadn't been done yet, that was the first thing to get replaced. I checked for pressure (don't have a gauge) and fuel spurts out of the fuel rail. I checked for spark didn't seem to get any (stuck a screwdriver in the end of the wire and turned it over, no spark to the frame or exhaust manifold). I replaced the cam position sensor and no go. I'm contemplating replacing the crank position sensor and/or the coil. But if somebody has had this problem and it's something else, i'd hate to replace things needlessly.
Edit: my problem right now is it doesn't start. thanks, Daniel |

really need to see exactly what fuel pressure is, it should be 50 psi. My regulator went bad recently, in the tank on fuel pump. pump was fine though, regulator wasn't holding pressure. Pressure would bounce around from 10 to 20 psi. It would hesitate and backfire. But once in a while it would set a code , cant remember number, but it was for system lean. I didnt think a 97 3.3 had a timing belt?? my 96 3.8 has a chain. good luck

Re: 97 3.3L stall issue
it has a chain, that is certain. my dad didn't seem to think he tightened down the cam gear...which could have something to do with it. I just now got a code 54, which means the computer isn't getting signal from the cam position sensor (which i just replaced). So, we'll see when we pull off the cover again.
I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. |
