Parking Brake On- No Warning Light

Had a little "oops" yesterday with my 03 Venture; drove a short distance with the parking brake not fully disengaged because the warning light was not working. I discovered the brake warning light does light up normally for a few seconds when you start the engine but goes out even before you disengage the parking brake. I assume this is part of the normal loop for post engine start warning lights check. If you are not paying attention you can drive off with the brake on if it wasn't set very tight. Any suggestions what to look for on the improperly working warning light?

Thanks, Greg

I'd check for a malfunctioning switch. I beleive, but can't say for sure, that the switch is activated by the actual emergency brake pedal.

As a side note, you may want to pull the drums off in the back and check your brakes for glazing.

I can CONFIRM that the switch is mounted on the parking brake assembly (according to my service manual). You should be able to see a cable and connector leading to it, but you may have to move some insulator panels and carpet.

Take Care & Merry Christmas,
