98 Buick Riviera Stereo Remove.

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone know how to remove the radio out of my 98 Riviera? Also does anyonne have any sites where I can find newer trim pices for the inside of my car. IE the back seat air vent cover?

Thanks.

Cbass,

Yes, the GM stereo's can sure drive you nuts to replace. I did this in both of my kids Pontiacs... Usually you end up removing the entire console, and at least the lower half of the dash. I would make sure you get a solid price from "Bust Buy" before they do it. I know sometimes they tell you a little, and it ends up being a lot.

So why are you replacing the unit? Did it go bad, or just upgrading? I know I sure wish mine played MP3s like my kid's Pioneer!

Good luck!

Re: 98 Buick Riviera Stereo Remove.

The Radio went bad. Plus I miss the sirius radio that I put in my skylark. I am still trying to make a decision on buying the stereo control mod for the steering wheel. I see them on ebay for $45.00, I dont know if I would use it that much. But if I dont get it installed then a year later, I will want it.

Do you know if I have to disable the SIR airbag system if I do install the stereo my self this summer?
Thanks,
Chris

Ahh yes... you've been hit by the satellite radio bug! I know quite a few people who got new vehicles with the intro offer on that, that just couldn't live without it once that intro expired!

I'm not sure, but I'll bet you do have to disable the air bag system to be able to install the steering wheel controls you spoke of. To just replace the unit in the dash... no, I wouldn't think so. I have the steering wheel controls on mine, and I love it. I use that almost exclusively now, it is so convenient. I did notice I find myself wanting the cruise control on there now too, like in other vehicles. It just seems a little more inconvenient on that turn signal stalk now!

You don't have to worry about the airbag if you are just replacing the stereo. It is a pain in the ass to change the stereo, though. When I took off the black plastic pice from under the dash that hangs over the guages, I broke all but 2 of the clips. I still haven't put it back on. I have sirius radio too, but mine is a seperate module that clips on my visor.
