Well, weather was nice, and as i figured, the guy across the street drove his NSX to work. After work I sit in my car for a minute until i see him walk out and get in his car. I pull out right after him and tail him to the first light where i pull up on his left side. I tach it up a few times to get his attention, but i see he's on his fukin cell! The light turns and i stay right next to him, keeping it at high revs and stabbing the throttle. As we pull up the the next light he gets off the phone and just glares at me. I start to tach it up again. The guy shakes his head like he's saying he doesnt want to race, but then he taches his car up like he means to. So i say fuck it and get ready for the light. The light turns and i do a near perfect launch (the best one ive ever done anyway). Good shift to 2nd and i look back, Ive got him by about a car length. As i shift to 3rd he takes some back and i can see the front of his car in my passenger window. even over my engine and turbos i could hear that thing absolutely screaming, he must have had it up to like 7k. I slammed 4th and he takes even more and im about a half car length behind him. He didnt pull away anymore all through 4th, but before i could grab 5th we hit some traffic. We roll to a stop behind traffic and he looks over and gives me a little nod. I smiled and kinda wiped my forehead and i saw him laugh, so at least he was cool about it. Some pricks act all big and bad when they win. I hate that shyt.
i think if we hadnt hit traffic he would have gained more on me when i made the shift to 5th. I think i only heard him shift twice, so i think thats what killed me. his NSX revs out so high, he didnt have to waste as much time shifting. Anyways, there you have it. I grant you, i didnt take it all the way to redline, and im not perfect at shifting, but i hit all the shifts great and took it close to 6k before shifting. I think with a better driver, it would have been a better race, but would have ended the same way. That thing was fast. So, on the highway on the way home i absolutely DESTROYED a 350Z. Not a big accomplishment i know, but it made me feel better ![]() oh, and its a '99 yellow targa...i walked over and checked the reg on my lunch

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
Good try. Those NSXs are something, aren't they? I've been wishing to have one for quite a while, those cars just scream sex appeal

what psi were running on when you raced the NSX?, it seems that your car runs pretty well because nsx's aren't slow cars.

You win some you lose some...either way, at least you came out of it safe. Nice try though...

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
Yeah at least you had a good race. Those are the ones I enjoy the best, even if I lose.
So how fast do you think you took it up to? I'm just curious how deep into 4th you went/and you have different gears than I do.

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
nice race man, those NSX's seem pretty mean.. at least you know where he works, so if you get more mods in the future you can race him again, and maybe the race'll turn out differently

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
to be honest i didnt really look at my speedo until the end after i started to brake, and we were doing about 110, so we prolly hit 125 or so tops. (like i said, i didnt take it to redline).
High speed braking: yea, so how much are a set of pads and rotors gonna set me back? 'cause i think mine are warped lol. im running stock psi (with free boost mod) so like 12 lbs or so. Other than that the only performance upgrade is the FIPK with the cold air box, and of course the short shift. |

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
yea well part of the problem was not goin to 7 grand or atleast close to it.
your gears are longer than his, so actually that should have givin you the edge. if you shifted at 6 grand, you lost a whole lot of momentum, your 3rd gear goes to about 123mph alone. but you still did pretty good, for only shifting at 6 grand. very damn good actually.... take it as a learning experience. regardless i bet it gave you one hell of a adrenaline rush

NSX pushes 280hp stock, i dont know if he has any mods or not, but he is an older guy (50s) so probably not. RWD drivetrain losses are something like 18% right? so hes probably got somewhere near 230 at the wheels. I dont know what he weighs, but im sure its a lot less than me being that he has an aluminum body. AWD helps in the launch, hurts weight. So, if you look at it on paper, its a pretty good race. If we were on a road track or something, he would have destroyed me. |

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
:Afterthought: He may have an AT in that thing....in which case he only has a 3.0L. I will check/ask him next time i see him or his car.

Now, if u say that NSX was able to take him, but the 350 wasn't... what's the deal there?... anyone know specifics on that NSX weight... any mods on it???

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
The NSX weighs in at about 3200lbs.
About the Z, i dont know what to tell ya, man. Ive killed a few of them. That was my 3rd coupe and i got 1 roadster. All of them have been highway kills though, i dont know if that makes a difference. Is the 350 governed low or something? Anyone else with a TT/VR4 had trouble with them? |

Re: vs NSX....i lose.
I don't know... I know that they are pretty fast... my buddies Civic (everyone laughs) was pushing a/b 260 at the time he raced one... granted the 260 was measured at the crank... not on the dyno... well, if they were both running a/b 230 to the wheels, it just seems odd to kill one, and not the other... I'll check some more stats... but a TT/VR4 should be able to kill them, stock for stock... they only put out 287 at crank... TT/VR4 300... as far as weight... I'm not sure either... I'll post it when I get a chance...
