Question 93 Sedan Deville blows cold air-I'm freezing

I have a 93 Cadillac Sedan Deville. It is blowing cold air and has no heat (obviously). The water pump has gone out twice in the past year. It doesn't seem to run hot, but once in awhile it smells hot or like oil is burning. Could any one please help me? I don't know if it is the thermostat or what? My father in-law said he took it in and they said it was the blower. I don't know what this means, roughly how much the part costs, etc. I am not good with cars. I've been reading some of the threads posted here, but I feel stupid because I am mechanically challenged. I just know that I am freezing to death. I would love some help.

Thanks

when you say it's blowing cold air is it when you have the heater on that it's cold air coming out?

When the heater and/or window defrosters are on cold air is coming out of the vents. There is no heat whatsoever, just cold air. Thanks for responding to my problem. I appreciate it.

the thermostat may be sticking in the open position this would cause the heater to blow cold air and does the temp gauge operate at normal range?

Yes, the temp seems to be operating at the normal range and there are no lights that come on to suggest otherwise. If the thermostat is stuck in the open position would I have to get a new thermostat, or can I unstick it somehow?

it could be the the heater core, they tend to get clogged after a few years if the antifreeze and water mixture was mixed too rich. i just changed mine last week, you can reverse flush it with a hose, but might as well replace the core, about $50 and an hour of your time. a haynes or chilton manual would be great if your willing to learn.
good luck

Check to see if the hoses on either side of what are hot on both sides? Sorry that I am so ignorant. I'm very appreciative for all of everybody's help.

Re: 93 Sedan Deville blows cold air-I'm freezing

there is a valve located between two of the heater hoses to the rear (firewall side) of the engine. It has three lines going to it. It is a water control flow valve. Make sure the hoses on both side of that valve are hot when at normal operating temperature and the heater on. Hope that helps you

Try to fond out what the override function looks like on your 93 and then follow these directions - which work on '95 and later
