First Race?

Hey all, I haven't seen a thread like this before, so I'll start one...

My first race was in my Z against a Chevy Cavalier. It basically all started when I needed to get into the right turn lane to turn at the next intersection. I could have either passed him, or merged behind him, so... being the stupid kid I was, I decided to pass him :P

So basically, I sped up a little, he floored it, my turbo spooled up, I shifted to 4th, pulled on him like nothing and merged in front

We did get going pretty fast tho, somewhere between 60-80 in a 45... I had my friends girlfriend with me and had to show her the power of the "Z" :P

Funny thing was after we made the turn, the kids in the Cavalier turned behind us, pulled up next to us and tried to get us to go again... I just laughed and kept going... no point wasting more gas on a road patrolled by tons of cops

What was your first race like?

My first real race, one where I had a car that could race (not my 200cid mustang with bad compression in several cylinders) was the Trans am. I was at a stop, and I noticed a civic throwing revs with a strange hissing noise. I look over to see this riced civic lookin tough with his chick. Light turnes green I hit it, we both go and he keeps rallying the gears tryin to catch up. Finally I turn, onto where I wanted to go, so he was throwing revs as we were drivin, I do the same, he drops it into gear and takes off, I do the same, my tires chirp something mad and I blow past him...again. :bandit:

79 with the oldsmobile 403 (6.6) It was a weird engine, I was going to swap it (but ended up in a head on) it made 180hp 365 toruque, my 0-60 was 5.3 seconds, it was great, but top speed was like....90.

Thats bad ass... why is the hp so low, but the torque is so high? Gearing or something?

My old boss was telling me about his '74 (i think thats the year) with a 455 superduty in it... I would have loved to have gotten a ride in that monster...

it was the way they made the engine, all bore no stroke. So it had alot of torque but no hp. The 455 was a monster, when first built it had low compression and a poor cam profile. By 74 (I dont know well anymore) they boosted the compression, put an exelent cam in, different more flowing heads, and started having larger carbs on as stock. Almost makes me want to get another screaming chicken :bandit:

My first race was in my dads 1996 Jeep Gand Cherokee. I had just gotten my licence and I was driving to a friends house and this guy in a mid 90s CRX pulls up next to me at a light. He is the merging lane and throws a rev. I floored it when the light turned green and left him in the dust.

They just happened to be there... its not like the guy said "hey lets go racing tonight bitch, okay?". If you want her to be there, tell her you want to go out for a relaxing drive with some romanitc music. Make her feel special with the tunes and maybe a rose... then when U see a good race candidate, just go for it!!! don't warn her, or she'll say no!!!

Ah, my first race. In a parking lot, with cones setup, autoXing against ricers and the like.

The ride was a 85 Ford Tempo, 5 speed, hot cam, P&P, all the cheap stuff you can do to a 2.3 to make it overpowered.

I kicked ass, there was only one better driver than me, in a CRX, but he had $3000 in the suspension after all.
