Unhappy Last try....need any suggestions you got!

ALLLL right. I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy. I can not get the heat to work! The whole system has been flushed out with an air hose 1 week ago, and then water on Saturday. All componets have been flushed completely. Tons of junk came out with each flush. It worked for 2 days and this morning nothing except a gurgle sound! I DO NOT want to reaplce the heater core, too time consuming.....Any other ideas ? ?

Maybe you have air in your system, and you just need to bleed it out.

Try reverse flushing the heater core itself one more time (pull the hoses at the firewall itself and use an ACID base flush)) Use a stant cap to allow the system to bleed properly. If after that its still not working you're gonna have no other choice but to replace the heater core.

See if you can find (I'd recommend) the Prestone brand acid flush. I found mine at Advance Auto parts. It's alittle hard to find. It's not a liquid flush. In comes in a yellow canister the has two halves. One half is the acid (in powder form), the other half is the neutralizer. Follow the instructions.

good luck. flush the hell out of it !

Re: Last try....need any suggestions you got!

I have been having a similar issue, with my 98 JImmy. The fluid in the overflow was thick. My mechanic thought that someone topped it up with green coolant. I have had the whole system flushed multiple times, I had the heater core flushed a few times and I replaced the thermostat and the now the heater core . I now have a little heat (enough to defrost) but even after driving for an hour, I am still freezing.

Any suggestions, I am in Canada and it will be cold here until May and I don't know if I can survive.
