Help with Civic Interior Work
When out and picked me up some Nakamichi 6x9s today with the intent of going home and throwing them in. I had about a 30 min job planned but damn I was wrong. I've installed 6x9s so I crawled in the trunk to find the screws holding the factory speakers in and I find plastic clips that of course have to be accessed from the top. Climb into the back of the Civic I found that I would have to remove the back panel, but to remove that I would have to remove the side panels. After cussing my way through an additional hour, I was left with my the back of the rear seat removed, and the side panels held on by one pin that I couldn't get to. It seems to be along the very bottom and is just covered by the back seat. Has anyone sucessfully installed speakers in to a '98 Civic Si? If they have, any tips or suggestions would help me out. Thanks in advance.

i dont know if ours are any the same but i bought my car with some aftermarket speakers in it. i pulled off the speaker covers and found those little thingies you were talkin bout. if all else fails, go to your local honda dealer. they have always helped me out with lil stuff like that. but dont pay them to fix anything, lol. they rip you off.
p.s. in that phrostED pic, is there an actual kit that looks like that? |

hmm...
i have a 98 civic coupe, and i installed aftermarket 6x9s. i dunno how your car is like but mine, the rear panel and side panels are seperate. once you fold your back seat down, there are like two clips on each side that hold the rear panel and side panels together. once you pop out those clips the rear panels should just come out with a few pops, gotta mess around with it. your side panels should still be intact. once the rear is off, just screw off the screws and put your 6x9s in and place your rear panel back on. slide the seatbelt straps back in and clip the side panels and rear back together, and your done. it only took me like 1 hr to do the whole thing, was my first time too

Emerge: Thanxs for the tip, I never even considered stopping by the dealership, but I have a couple times before for minor things. As far as I know the picture is just all concept, buddy of mine drew it. I don't think it was based on anything.
Bruzer: That's how I was told to do it. I've got so far as to loosen my side panels, but it looks like the rear deck has to be pulled towards the front of the vehicle and we can't get it to go that way because the side panels are in the way.

okay, there are clips holding the side panel to the chasis of the car, just tug a lil and a few clips with pop out, once so you just pull the rear panel out a lil to get it free from the latch where the back seats lock to then pull it free. like i said just mess around with it and it will come off. i dunno how much the dealers are gonna charge or a audio store, but if all and all fails, might as well. but try a lil to save a few money and if you get it off, youll feel better because you did it yourself and didnt have to pay anyone :sun:

especially if you are going to continue doing work on your car, I recommend getting a Helm's Manuel.

Does Helms have instructions to remove the interior pieces? I've checked out a couple of guides and none had this inside. Where can I buy Helms?
