Last year, my 97GC started rattling, Id notice it upon startup and the rattle would increase in freq and disappear as I applied throttle...turns out the cat. converter was bad, busted on the inside. had to replace. good luck

Re: rattling exhaust in my 96
Sounds like a bad cat to me. How does the jeep run, does it lack power?
with the engine off and cold, using your hand, hit the bottom of the catalytic converter, you should here it rattling. |

Re: rattling exhaust in my 96
yea and if it is the cat, i know sometimes outside while the car is running, it smells like eggs or something. Because thats what happend to my '96. So i just cut it off and put on a flow.

Re: rattling exhaust in my 96
I had rattling in my '94 Jeep GC, and was about to replace the CAT, then I had transmission troubles and had to have that rebuilt, plus other work done. After all of that, it wasn't rattling, so I think it must have been something else - possibly the heat shield around the CAT. I was going to replace it anyway (I banged it as dksob81 suggested, but no rattling). The engine worked fine, so I just left the CAT alone. I think it was old-car-syndrome.
