2 problems

Someone gave me a 96 taurus and the car has been sitting sence june. so that was all fine i got it started up and running good but i've got 2 problems, both which came about from sitting not being driven. First off when i got the car i let it warm up and when the fan cut in it wouldnt cut back out not till the battery went dead 45 min later and this problem keeps about so i had to take the fuse out of the car. Next problem is that the heater will only work on the high setting. Any input on these problems will greatly be appricated.
Thanks

Re: 2 problems

Have you flushed your cooling system and heater core?
You may have a stuck fan relay or a bad temp sensor that is causing the fan to stay on.

actually reason car was parked was they had alotta trouble after she had the rad beat out. it was working fine till parked it one night and poured out anti freeze. so she parked it without any coolant in it for about 3 months then we filled it up and nothing has leaked out sence

I forgot to mention there is actually 1 more problem i have and that is that the remote starter dont work, it did when it was parked but the batter was dead in the remote, so changed it and went to try it but nothing. Is there any wires i should check or anything that i can check or might of knocked off while channging battery?

Re: 2 problems

I assume when you mention that the heater only works on the high setting you are referring to the blower? If so, you probably have a bad resistor set (if manual HVAC controls - knobs) or a bad blower speed controller (if EATC - electronic).

As for the remote start not working, the control module needs to have some pretty high current wiring to it. If the installer did not use a T-harness, there is probably a decent sized wire that needs to go to the battery. Maybe it did not get reconnected. If there is a power wire to the battery, there should be an inline fuse for it. Make sure it is not blown. If it's blown, try to figure out why it's blown. The other option, a T-harness, would tap into the factory wiring and would not require a wire being run to the battery separately. If this is the case, maybe the remote needs to be reprogrammed to the module after sitting all this time with a bad battery. Find the control module, determine the brand, and find the manual for it.

As for the radiator fan running constantly, you need to determine what voltage the coolant temperature sensor is sending to the PCM then determine if the PCM is sending a signal to the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM) to turn the fan on. If the PCM is not telling the CCRM to turn the fan on, measure the voltage out of the CCRM to the fan. If you are seeing battery voltage out of the CCRM, then the CCRM probably has a stuck relay.

I'm on travel, otherwise I'd send you the wiring diagrams for the CCRM and cooling fan control.

Re: 2 problems

It appears maybe your car doesn't use the CCRM I mentioned. I've posted a copy of the schematic for the cooling fans for the '98 Taurus (should be very similar to the '96) at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod241473...oling_Fans.pdf

ok i think the cooling fans might be working right now, put fuse back in today and they were shut off, gonna see driiving it the next couple of days if it works or not. 1 problem down, the next i would like to try and figure out is the starter, i checked the inline fuse and such and that seemed to be fine, i'm thinking it could need to be reprogrammed. i dont know how to go abouts reprograming it because i dont know who installed it the type of car starter, all i know is it says autostart on the remote and it only has 2 buttons, one for starting and one for either trunk or doors, cant remember which.

Re: 2 problems

You're gonna need to find the main remote start module or locate the manufacturer of the remote start system from the FCC ID number on the remote. I don't know if I still have a list, but a quick Google search can probably find the info from the FCC ID. Programming the remotes will probably involve opening the hood, turning the key on and off a certain number of times, then pressing one of the buttons on each remote, followed by turning the key to the off position or something. I would suspect one button does the remote start and the other is for keyless entry or panic.
