Door Ajar / Dome Light Flashing

I have a 2000 Windstar that has been driving us crazy. While driving, the door ajar light will flash and beep, the locks will acuate up and down repeatedly (to the point where the driver door lock actuator no longer functions), and the dome light will flash occasionally. It mostly happens when we go over SMALL bumps in the road or when making turns, however sometimes it will just happen non-stop for no particualt reason. I've been told the GEM module may be bad, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a shorted wire somewhere. My wife will not drive it anymore as it's making her nuts!!! Anyone out there that can help???

The "door ajar" light and dome light symptoms could be explained by a bad door switch.

The door lock symptom shifts the focus. I'd start checking the bundle of wires that goes to the van from the driver's door; it's between the two door hinges. The bundle is covered by a heavy plastic boot. Is the boot damaged? Try grabbing the bundle and moving it around. Do any of the problem's symptoms occur? The passenger side door has similar bundle; check both.

Do a search for door ajar or dome light on this forum. There are lots of good posts about this. Your problem is most likely a sticky switch in a door latch some where.

I agree with Phil. The door ajar and the door lock problems are two separate systems. The only way they can work together is frayed wires caused by sharp edges or screws put where they should not be.
