Question abouty Primering and Painting ****

Well, as you can tell, my eclipse has the turbo spoiler, and because of that it left some open and unnecessary hole in the trunk and rear quarter panels. I have already patched them up and the are now ready for prime and paint.

How do I go about doing this? How do I prime? What type of spray paint (brand) is the best to match the color of your car? And what is the purpose of buffering?

Thanks!

Ok, lets see. So you have the holes filled up right? Sanded smooth? DO NOT use spray paint unless you want it to look like shit. I have never seen or heard of a spray paint that matched an original paint. Once its smooth I would scuff it and the surrounding area up with some 400 grit sand paper, lay down a couple base, color, and clear coats. Then it should look like new. Use a HVLP gun with a decent compressor, if you dont have them, I would have a body shop do it for you.

If you do paint it, take you time. Its not as easy as it looks. You could probably go to a body shop and have them mix you up the right color.

Re: Question abouty Primering and Painting ****

Alright well I did the priming and painting and all cam out good except the passenger side rear quarter panel...the paint ran in some places.

How can I fix this? Do I first sand then prime and paint again, or just paint? Is it important top buffer?

THANKS

Re: Question abouty Primering and Painting ****

You can use like 1000+ grit to sand out runs and then you can usually buff the slight marks out from the sanding.

Re: Question abouty Primering and Painting ****

Well, before yall posted I went outside and started to sand, and after like a minute I got the idea to wet sand, so I am done know...there are still minor imperfections, like some indentures were the holes used to be...I guess I didnt bondo it up as well as I had though I did. But first time I think I didnt pretty good.

So about this buffing, what is the point of it and must I buy a machine to do it? Doesnt it like smooth out the paint (to blend the paint with the other color)? Some help!! PLEASE

THANKS!
