Chaparral 2D Coupe Daytona 1966
Hello all, its been a while since I've posted, I've stuck in a dorm room in Clemson, SC. I home for Christmas and I decided it's high time I build a model. I'll be keeping this relatively simple, because I only have 3 weeks to finish it. So far I've rid the body of mold lines, and sanded it down with 600 grit, still needs some 800 and 1500 wetsanding before I can lay the paint down though. I also drilled out the exhaust openings so that I could use aluminum tubing. What is the prefered method for cutting aluminum tubing cleanly by the way?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking! I'd like to add that the level of modeling quality has gone up dramatically since I've been at college, there are some really good looking models in this forum now!

I stripped the chrome off the wheel and primed them so that they are ready for the metalizer gun metal. I masked off the chrome intake trumpets and sprayed the engine cover with light gun metal. The weather isn't ideal for spray painting today so I'll probably do the body work tomorrow.

Immesurably cool subject, didn't even know here was such a kit. I'll be following this build very closely.

I got the body painted other bits painted body color. I chose Tamiya Racing White, at first i was alittle discouraged because of how off-white it was. Although it is now growing on me, it gives it more of vintage racer look. I also finished detailing the wheels.
![]() ![]() ![]() The included driver figure is a nice touch ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the comments

this is really bringing back memories for me. when i was a kid i got a stromberg racecar set and it came with this car so i have a real soft spot for this. i think the white is perfect and the whole thing is coming together super. im glad you included the driver. keep up the great work.

Re: Chaparral 2D Coupe Daytona 1966
Smooth paintjob. Is the off white correct for the car you're building or just your interpretation?

Re: Chaparral 2D Coupe Daytona 1966
RallyRaider, the instructions asked for gloss white. The LHS was out of Tamiya Pure white, so figured Racing White would work. Like I said it was more off white that I expected, but it went on smooth so I'm happy.

Chaparral's were a little off white. They were more like an old refridgerator white. Tamiya Racing White is close but needs to be lightened up just a tad. If you shoot it over a white primer and just mist it on, it should be okay.
