Maxamum potential for the Miata

I have been increasingly impressed with the modified miatas latley, but I don't know what kind of potnetial the stock engine block and drivetrain has. I have heard some incredable clames of 300+rwhp can this be done with the stock drivetrain? With an aftermarket rotatong assembly and ported heads how much boost/hp is it able to handle? I am guessinng that it also depends on the year of the car, if so what years did they make the most significant changes?

The stock internals will easily handle the 250 hp range. There are several 1.8's, that are not daily drivers, that do make the 300 hp range, but are strickly track cars. My daily driver is a 250 hpm car. It is generally considered that when you get into the high 200's that drive train can start to break, but alot depends on how you drive. I am running 12 psi of boost, which is normal for stock internals, but built bottom ends can handle 18+ psi. Most built engines at 18+ can easily reach the 300+ range. 350 is not out of the queston, and there are a couple that are in the mid 400 range. Granted, you probabally cannot drive a 400+ Miata on the street, but a 350 you can. Model year of the car is not important. Almost any of the 94+ cars can make high HP if set up correctly.
