Speaker Problem???

i know that car audio has nothing to do with this forum and yes im so sorry, but u guys are my last hope i have a 2000 rodeo and i wanted to get my front speakers replaced. there were 5.25 in there that barley fit on the the mount so as any person would i went to crutchfield to see what fit my car. so they say 6.5's will fit so i buy some and nope they dont fit at all, they go in half way and stop. it looks like the opening is hiting the speaker basket. ive tried about three diffrent kinds of the same size speakers but no hope. so my main question is if anyone knows what fits in my front speaker mount or if anyone had to modify the mount in some way?? again im very sorry bout it not having to do with rodeo repair so plz bear with me. thank you!!!

Your talking about a physical space, right!

I have a picture in my Haynes book and I think I see what your talking about, It does look as if the size is specific to that type of speaker. I mean the screw holes almost butt up against the speaker itself. No room for expansion. The only way I can see something bigger fitting in there, is if an optional mount, like a submount would attach to the panel first and then the speaker would attach to the submount. Its the only way, and if there isnt something like that sold by where you got the speaker, unless you make one yourself, your SOL! -sorry!

search the internet, learn how to fiber glass. it's easy. fashion up a few pods, fiber glass, bondo, sand it down, cover it in vinyl. works great. then you can screw the pod into the existing holes and then put the speakers in.. even if you only made a pod 2 inches deep, it would still allow for clearance.

try it, it is super easy to do.

Started this project last week myself, but it's been 10 degrees or so in CO. for the last week. My solution is to make a template of the available mounting surface and cut away the metal flange on the speaker where needed (being careful to not cut into the speaker foam lip) so that it fits flat into the hole. Only three of the screw holes line up at this point but I think they will hold fine. If not, it looks like I can drill a new hole for the last screw. I might put a little clear adhesive silicone under the edge.

I put 5.25" JL Audio speakers in the front. I ended up making a baffle out of some thin mdf to make up for the gap. The only downside is that I can't put the factory grills back on w/o shaving them down.

yeah, but who wants factory grills when you can show off the jl's.... oh yeah, you don't really want to show those off to prying eyes...
