rolls in park

my dad has a 93 grand wagoneer w/ the 5.2. it doesnt seem to go into park or at least it rolls while its in park. and sometimes when driving it makes a popping sound in the front end anyone know what this is?

Well sounds lke you may have a broken axleshaft. Did you remove the front driveshaft, on the Quadra-trac systems (All-Time 4WD) if you remove the front driveshaft you will roll whiole in park and you must use the e-brake. Alot of people remove the front driveshaft to improve mileage.

With the popping sound you are hearing I would say a broken Axleshaft, or bad CV joint.

we havent removed anything, but the only wheels that spin are the rear ones, when its in gear i can hear the popping sound even while setting still . thanks for the info how much is an axle shaft?

AxleShafts are around $100 each. I would inspect axleshafts first.

It could also be internal damage in the transfer case, which woudl cause the noise you are hearing and the rolling while in park.

i can actually touch the shaft where it goes into the wheel b/c the boot is ripped, when i touch it i can move it around and see it turn when im stopped and in gear

You can spin the axle by hand?
