Question antilock brakes

'94 Grand Prix SE.......braking is fine under normal conditions. Brake hard enough to activate antilock feature and there is a serious "banging around" sort of sound coming from the front end, sounds like both front and left sides, like maybe the calipers are seriously loose, but they're not. Any suggestions!?

Re: antilock brakes

Banging...like a clicking or a palsating feel?

It sounds as if the calipers are severly loose and ready to fall off. It's not the normal antilock brake pulsating feeling that you get under hard braking, but the knocking around is in beat with the pulsating that you would get when the system kicks in. It's really odd, I've never heard anything like it. They make a caliper bushing replacement kit that I might try, but the caliper bushing in place don't appear to have any slop in them......everything seems to be good and tight.

Re: antilock brakes

Did you check both sets of front caliper bolts, the ones that mount the caliper to the bracket as well as the ones that mount the bracket to the spindle? The two that mount the bracket to the spindle are famous for backing out. Make sure you use blue threadlock when you put them back in.
