Check Engine Light

On my 95 cavalier i get a check engine light when the temp. reaches about 1/2 way. (There is no problem with the car overheating). Any ideas? oh, and i tried to have a diaganostic run on it, and it wouldnt connect with the cars computer.

If you have a 95 you should be able to get a trouble code out of it using a jumper wire. I am not positive, all vehicles from 96 and up have obdII but there are some makes and models that have obdII in 95's. as long as you do not have OBDII you can try jumping pins A and B on your ALDL it should be under the dash on the drivers side it should be a black 12 pin connector with two rows of six pins, get a piece of wire or a paperclip and jump the two pins on the top row all the way to the right turn the key to the run position and your check engine light should start to flash it will first flash a 12 wich is one flash then short pause followed by two flashes, it will flash this 3 times. After the third time it will flash any stored trouble codes, all trouble codes flash 3 times, then when they are all finished 12 will flash 3 more times
