HELP!!! 94 Transport problems

Ok.. i looked and looked for sites that could help but have been un succesful...

i have 3 questions....

1
The drivers door on my stepdads 94 Transport doesnt open from the outside but opens from the inside.... i havent tooken the time to take the door skin off to evaluated it... i am asking for any tips or pointers on how to fix this as it would be much easier to access the situation knowing what to do ahead of time....

2
the far back drivers window (latched window) was shattered by kids playing near the van and one fell into it... well instead of filing a report...as the kid that fell into the window went to his parents and they called the cops without us even knowing.. and we found out by the kid knocking on your door.. so we decided not to file a report as it wasnt a BIG deal and they handled it in a mature and human way.....
theyve offered to pay for the window.. to save on money we decided to jsut put the window in ourselves...

so that leads to the question.. what if any preperations are needed before hand? and how do i go about installing the window???

3
it just doesnt run.. (and this is why the broken window and drivers handle not working isnt a BIG deal) it jsut doesnt want to turn over... we've charged the battery.. we;ve jumped it... and we've bought a whole new battery.. but still dead as a doornail... we believe its the Coilpacks... but not 100% sure as everything is non-responsive...

any tips, tricks, pointers, walkthroughs would be GREATLY appreciated....

It is the outside door handle that is broken. You have to take the trim away to be able to exchange it. By a new handle cheep at ebay, or, you can even repair it. You need a 1/4" screw, and tools to drill a hole and make a 1/4" thread.
2
I donīt think its a big thing to do yourself, but I do know. If nobody else can answer, I can check this up. You can probleby find a new window cheep at the crapyard.
3
You need to pull out the diagnostic troble codes, to know what to do. As you have a 94, you need a scanner. Try to borrow a scanner somewhere.

for the first thing ill get to work on the handle when we repair the window..... if i need any helps ill drop u a line...

for the second thing.. they are goin to pay for the window and picking it up this week... were not in a BIG rush so there just goin to wait untill after Xmas to find one... we live just seconds away from an LKQ and they have nearly 10 Transports with the back drivers window that will fit.... so we can get it for cheap and easy..... the only thing is.. is tehre any trim, parts we have to take apart? is so.. waht parts??? im assuming the trim that souronds the window on the inside??? i havent gotten to "Know" this vehicle as its not mine and i have my own car to deal with.... but weve gotten to the point were things need done so we have an extra vehicle as having to many vehicles is never a problem...lol if u can just tell me exactly what i have to do it will be MUCH thankful....

for the third thing.... i dont have a scanner.. like i said.. the battery charges and we even put a new batterly in it.. and i also put his battery (the old one) in my brothers car and it started his car right up... so we know its not the battery... but when we try to turn the key it gets nothin but dummy lights.. but not a chug not a turn.. nothing..... im suspecting its the Coil packs or Starter... BUT u can hear the starter winding when u turn the key... so maybe it could be Contacts......
like i said before... i havent put to much time into this van as its not mine and i am really never home and i have my own car to worry about (im currently converting a 97 Mustang to a show car).. the only time ive really spent on this van was to change out the water pump and to repair the drivers fender....

anyway.. were do u think we can locate a scanner??? i dont have any near me that has one... all the "car" people i know are in Cali,Florida,Minnesota,etc... places that are thousand of miles away.....

ive never really had the need for a scanner so ive never looked into them... Autozone, Nappa, Advanced, etc. would have them wouldnt u think???

thanks already got the help.. and thanks in the future for any more u may help out....

Do you hear a click with the starter or just a whirring? If you hear a click, it's the start engaging the flywheel but not turning. If you hear a whirring but not a click, the starter is turning, but just not engaged. I would remove the starter and start there. Most part stores do free starter testing. You can do it to by just energizing the starter. If the starter tests fine, I would look at electrical problems such as blown relays/fuses or an ignition switch issue. So far you have nothing that would indicate coil pack...that doesn't come into use until the engine turns over.

If its a 94, why does he need a scanner? I have a 95 and its obd1. I just check the flashes of the check engine light. I thought it was 95 that transitioned over to obd2 and that the 3.8 has obd2 while 3.1, which i have, remained obd1 till the end of the model year.

I have -94 3,8 and you can't pull codes out with a paper clip. I had to build a cable to get codes out.

The ECM/PCM for 1994 and 1995 3800 still has GM ALDL 8192 baud OBDI communication, like before, but the codes are enhanced, and are more or less identical to the codes for later OBDII systems. Many people think this is OBDII, because the codes looks like it, but the real OBDII came with the new 3.4 in 1996. Because of this enhanced codes for 1994-1995, it is no longer possible to flash the codes.

The 3.1 had the older and slower GM ALDL 160 baud communication, and nothing was ever changed, not even for the last year. This makes it possible to flash the codes for all 3.1.
