Door catch /window problem

Hello everyone, I have come across this wonderful site in search of some answers. After reading some posts with very helpful information I decided to register and hopefully get an answer for a problem I have.

A few months ago I had a broken door catch mechanism replaced in my 03' Siverado. The work was under warranty and after reading the invoice the service said it included taking off the door panel and replacing the catch. To me the work was done much too fast and I thought that I could hear the piece of broken catch rattle at different times when I closed my door or hit a major bump or pothole.

My problem now is that my electric window will not open or close. At first it was making a sort of grinding noise, but was at least moving up or down. Shortly after I had to manually assist the window by pulling up on the glass to get it closed. Now, it moves just a 1/4 inch or so down and up.

My questions to anyone who might know are: How hard is it and how long does it take to get the panels off the inside door? Am I right in suspecting that they never removed the broken catch thus creating the window problem? Also, how would I know if I take it back to the dealer and they tell me it was not the cause of the window problem and try and stick me for the labor? I appreciate your time and help on this issue.

To get your panel off is a 15 minute job at most once you know where the screws are located. With that off you can pull the plastic loose and reach into the bottom of the door and find the "Loose" item. You will also be able to see if the plastic has been replaced or reattached by the glue lines on the plastic. Once you have the panel off you can also see if the cable is binding or catching for your window problem. After you observe and diagnose your problem just reattach your panel. Is your truck still under warrenty? If so let them know what you found. If not get the parts you need.

Remove the plastic around the door handle, one screw inside. Remove the plastic cover that locks and unlocks the door, it just pulls off. On the right and left side of the door halfway up are 2 covers for screws, remove the covers and the screws. I think that is all the screws, I had mine off 2 months ago and I have slept since then. Then the door lifts straight up. You will have to hold the panel up to remove the wires from the panel. 2 of them come loose with tabs and the 3rd has a snap over mechanism. To operate the door you will need to reattach the wires and just hold the panel. A helper would be a good idea at this point.

I'll give that a try and let you know how I make out. I have an extended warranty on the truck, but I'm nort sure if there is a charge for service. I can't find my paperwork. I don't want to pay them (dealer) anything if they are at fault. It sounds easy enough. I have a guy at a local body shop who owes me a favor. I'll incorporate his help.
