No Airfilter/intake

Ok, well here is my story.. I was riding in my friends 91 GSX and he's like yea man i just got a new fuel pump and injectors and turned my boost upto 18 psi, so were driving and as ussal he ended up racing somone a Acura Integra.. spanked it but i noticed when he was boosting his turbo was way louder i already knew he had turned boost up but.. it was super loud almost as loud as his RFL bov i was like dude why is it so loud... so he pulled over and poped his hood and i looked instiantly i and seen there was no airfilter or intake pipe to his turbo just this little box that said "horse power in a box" and i could see his turbo just spooling i was shocked and he had a little chicken wire mesh clamped over his turbo inlet, anyways to my question. What was that little box because I want to run like system like that in..

If I'm not mistaken that would be a GM MAF Translator... It eliminates the need for your stock MAF (It replaces it) and you can just stick a filter on your turbo inlet. It's an excellent way to change the piping around and vent atmosphere for your BOV... I will be doing the same setup in the spring but I'll also be using a S-AFC to fine tune it.

Re: No Airfilter/intake

Considering your buddys car didn't blow up I would assume he's running a Blow-thru GM-MAF-T setup. It basically measures air right before the throttle body, the air is "blown" threw the meter. On a stock setup, the MAS is before the turbo. Main benefits are overall more airflow possible (you dont need it til around 55lbs i believe) and you can vent.

Re: Re: No Airfilter/intake

He was definately referring to the maft setup, thats their slogan. Anyway, the only real benefits of the setup other than stated above are the ability to tune for slightly larger injectors, its nain function is very much like that of an afc.
