Re: turbo 2.2L

If you have an Ecotec, there will be a badge on the top of your engine that says ECOTEC 2.2 on it...

Here is a link to a page for a Turbo engine for a 2.2/2200 (I guess they are close enough for either one to use the same turbo setup)

Re: turbo 2.2L

Here is the turbo that goes with that intercooler setup...kinda pricey, though...

Re: turbo 2.2L

Stage 1 is 5-6 lbs of boost...intercooler is only necessary if you plan to run higher...so you can get stage 1 for 5-6 pounds of boost, and the intercooler if you want it higher...

Re: turbo 2.2L

Is it even possible to fit a Z24 engine with a turbo and ecotec in it? I doubt the cavalier has enough room, would be a crapload of modifications...anyone ever seen that much of an engine in such a little car?

Re: Re: Re: turbo 2.2L

Okay...lot of questions and problems rolling around that need answering.

1 - Year = 2000, thus you have a 2200, not a 2.2OHV, and not a 2.2 Ecotec.
2 - I've heard good things about Hahn Racecraft -
http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/Cavalier/ln2ohv.htm
Only problem some people have is the fact that they use DSM-style turbos. Easily upgradeable, though.
3 - CCLaguna - I wish I had a way to host a video for you, because I have one of a lovely 2002 Cavalier LS Sport racing a Honda Prelude. The Prelude is pushing 171WHP, the Ecotec is putting down 216 WHP thanks to a t3/t4 turbo and a few other goodies. It was quite a race. So yes, its entirely possible to do that and you have plenty of room. I mean, hell, you can squeeze a 3800 S/C (a 90 degree V6) in there, I'm sure you can squeeze an ecotec and turbo setup. Also, the ecotec isn't a Z24 motor (unless you're canadian...silly canadians), its an LS Sport motor from 2002 1/2 and the base motor from 2003+

Finally

4 - CavLCD - I'm prbobably going to offend a few people here, but here it goes: don't drop 20k into this car unless you know EXACTLY how to ge the power out of it. The only motor that I've ever seen in a Cavalier that can put down really large numbers in a reliable fashion (without custom parts and such) is the ecotec. You could easily swap one in if you're interested in putting down that sort of cash, though. The alternative would be some custom work and a 3800 S/C + goodies swap to gain the biggest numbers possible, but good luck with the handling becuase you'll be insanely front-heavy.

Ask if you have more questions.

Re: turbo 2.2L

From what you are saying and asking, spend about 10k of that on automotive classes at college. a 2.2ohv motor is not a good platform if you want speed.. start on a 2.3 HO or a 2.4 twin cam. or with 20k a 3800 s/c

Or why not just buy a 2.0 turbo charged crate motor for $5,000 then build from there?
