Question Help with windshield washer tank

Hi friends.. Has anyone ever removed their windshield washer tank ? If so, how the heck do you get access to it ? It doesn't appear to be easily accessed by taking out the battery.
If anyone could shed any light; I'd sure be appreciative to you !
Mine has a leak somewhere way down at the bottom of the tank, and only holds about half-cup of fluid.
Thanks very much, and Happy Holidays !

Tommy

EDITED >>> I forgot to list my car, lol ! I have a 2000 GT1.

If its in the same place as my 95 you are in for a fun time. It's behind the bumper cover. Remove the headlight, there is a bolt behind that holding the tank at the top. Remove the splash shield, there are 2 bolts on the bottom of the tank. Unplug the pump, disconnect the hose, wiggle it around until it comes out. Make sure you use a new pump, nothing sucks more than fighting with the new tank installing it to disover the pump leaks as you have to remove the tank to change the pump.

Re: Help with windshield washer tank

Oh man.... that blows bigtime. Sounds like a much bigger job that what I expected, dammit. Mine is leaking here somewhere, but it is towards the bottom as the tank will only hold very little fluid.
I've never heard of that bumper cover thing; that sounds like fun too, lol.
Boy, oh boy... why did Pontiac make it so difficult???
Oh well, many thanks Skibum for the reply. This one might be a job for the dealership, darn it...
Have a great holiday my friend !

i'm thinking the inside fender well has to come out. Thats a pretty big container in there. It might just bee the pump seals leaking, and then you would just need to get a rebuild kit, they run about $25. I htink it comes with new seals and maybe a pump too, not exactly sure. http://www.rockauto.com/ should hav it.

Re: Help with windshield washer tank

Thanks Xero... that's what I was thinking too (the pump gasket/seal). Wherever it is leaking, it is very slow because it doesn't puddle under my car. So it is a very slow leak.
And, as my luck would have it, it is quite cold here in Massachusetts now too.... Why can't these things decide to break in summer, lol ?
Oh well..... dem' is da breaks, I guess..
Thank you again buddy; hope Santa is great to all.
(hey, I better ask the jolly ole' guy for a pump kit !)

I got lucky changing mine, it was in the summer so it wasn't too bad. Just be happy it wasn't a few days ago when it was really really really cold...

i think cold is cold, and I dont like it
Winter always brings the best out of a car, and just leaves it at home.

I'm in the same situation as you too.... It is a bit cold here and I haven't yet climbed under the car to inspect where that bumper cover is. I was supposed to take my car into the dealership but I decided to wait til after the holidays. Mine might be covered under a extended warranty policy I took out.
In the meantime, I've been trying to find out info on where exactly that pump is located on the tank. As we seem to have the same leak; I wonder if our pump is leaking on the gasket? I can hold about a cup of fluid, so that might be a clue as to where my leak is. I've got a hunch that it is indeed that pump or gasket.
Hopefully mine is covered; if not then I'll have to troubleshoot when it gets warmer here in New England.
No heated garage here at my house, lol !!!!
