1st to 2nd shifting! is my tranny really bad?

Ok heres my question, i recently installed act 2100 clutch, xact flywheel, b&m short shifter, symborski kit and new tranny fluid(syncromesh) even with those parts I still cannot make a quick shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Heres exactly how I do it,

-press clutch all the way in 5500 or 6000 rpm
-shift 1st to 2nd
-If i shift too fast it will grind if not, it wont but it dropped too much rpm

I just noticed it will mostly go in gear on 4500rpm & below after i pressed the clutch.

What do you guys recommend to fix it? When should I shift from 1st to 2nd?

Thanks!!!

You should be able to shift from 1st to 2nd whenever you feel like it... Maybe your clutch needs adjust in some more. I figure if its grinding like you say, it may just be a disengagment issue. I'd try that first though before doing any tranny shopping. Unless you have the spare money laying around to build a tranny. IMO its one of the best things you can do for a tranny that can keep up with your driving and handle any power you throw at it. Just my 2 cent though...

If it shifted fine before the clutch was put in then it shouldn't be your tranny. Your clutch might not be releasing all the way. Try bleeding the lines and make sure there is NO air in them.

If you learn to double clutch, you'll never have shifting or syncro problems ever again! Once you get good at it, you can shift much faster.

Double clutching and shifting faster? I dont think so man, its just two more times you have to push in the clutch. I would do as stated above and bleed the system.

Once you get a feel for it, its just a little slower than shifting regularly. But double clutching on an upshift?

Double clutching is actually a longer process than normal shifting... The only advantage is that its a more efficient shifting method...

Then theres shifting without the clutch... Damn is that fun. lol

Lightbulb Had same problem in my 92 Eclipse

My 92 Eclipse GS (4g63 non-turbo) had the same issue. I was frustrated to all hell with it, adjusting the clutch, messing with the short shifter the previous owner had installed, and it was simply an issue of bleeding the clutch. My girlfriend borrowed my car for a week when I was out of town and ran low on clutch fluid. She added some more dot 3 brake fluid and kept driving. I found this out AFTER I solved the mystery...women. She did help me though by pressing on the clutch while I bled the line
