97 Mustang turning indicator

I have a 97 mustang GT convertable. One front indicator works (blinks) when the switch is turned part way like changing lanes but doesn't when the switch is flipped all the way. the other front and both back work normal. Is this the turning indicator switch?

Don't know about yours, but when mine did this I took apart the stalk switch, cleaned and lubricated it with dielectric grease. Problem gone.

Re: 97 Mustang turning indicator

Received private message from mbeeb1 regarding this thread on 5-21-2006.

"A while ago you answered a thread on fixing a turning switch. I worked some grease into it with out totally removing it. It is doing it again. I want to remove the switch and clean it well. How do I get the switch out. I can't get the key insert off . Any help?

My email is [email protected]
Mike"

In cases like this, I feel private messages are not the best because I believe problems and solutions should be shared. That is what makes forums like this work. Also private messages limit the amount of help you can get. I have no direct experience in taking apart a Ford turn signal switch, yet I have taken apart the turn signal switches on Datsuns, Toyotas, and MGs when the same or similar problems occurred.

The first thing I have always do is remove the switch from the column.
Here is a link on the procedure to remove the switch from your vehicle.
http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d801ddefb.jsp

Then carefully take the switch apart. Be aware there may be springs or ball bearings under pressure inside the switch. Clean and inspect all the contacts with electrical contact cleaner making sure nothing is too worn. Then lubricate the contacts and moving parts with dielectric grease (you shouldn't need a lot).

Worst case senario; Autozone sells them for about $40- if you need to replace. May want to check availability before taking it apart just in case.
