NO HEAT!! I'm freezing!!!!

I have a 92 roadmnaster and I love it. Problem is that the heater core is out (we think). We created a temporary bypass but need specific instructions on how to change it out. Can someone direct me to a web-site or book with detailed instructions, or possibly tell me how to do it. It is very cold and I need some heat. Please help!!!!!!!

Re: NO HEAT!! I'm freezing!!!!

Hello,Could it be that the heater core is plugged? If you have the lines disconnected now,I would get a garden hose and try to flush out the heater core.hopefully that would cure your problem. Before you disconnected the hoses,Did you smell a "sweet" odor inside the car,Or notice a "fog" on the inside of the windshield?? If yes,Than you may have a heater core leak.Let me know what you come up with.. Diesel 1962........

Hi Diesel 1962 thank you for replying to my question. Yes there was a sweet smell and a fog so we know that there is a leak somewhere. The problem is that we have no idea how to change it out. Is it to difficult for a novice? Does it have to be changed out from the inside behind the glove box? I appreciate any help that you can give. Have a great christmas!

Re: NO HEAT!! I'm freezing!!!!

Hello.I have not evere looked under the hood if a Buick Roadmaster,But I dont think that it would be hard to replace a heater core yourself. I would get a Haynes,Or Chilton manual for your Buick if you plan to keep this car for along time.I have herd that Roadmasters were good cars.At least the engine it mounted in the normal fashon!! At least your car will run,My Monte Carlo blew a head gasket,Cannot repair it untill the weather gets warmer around here(michigan).I do not have a garage,So there my car sits!! I love making payments on a car that you cannot drive!!Good luck,Buy a manual,And let me know if you repaired this car.Diesel 1962...P.S Did you check the other posts in this forum? looks like other guys had the same problem you are having,Maby they could be of help..

Re: NO HEAT!! I'm freezing!!!!

Although I havent R&R a heater core on my Roadmaster (yet), my repair manual states the following: 1)Disconnect negative battery cable 2) Drain cooling system 3) Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet on the engine side of the firewall, and plug the open fittings 4)Inside the car, remove the lower right dash insulator panel (located below the glove box) and the glove box 5) Detach any vacuum lines that could interfere when you remove the heater core cover 6) Remove the lower instrument panel brace, and heater core cover 7) Remove the heater core clamp bolt and clamp then slide out the heater core. Reinstallation is roughly the reverse orfer of removal. Take care to make sure any original insulating/sealing materials are in place around the heater core and pipes. Also before disconnecting your negative battery cable, make sure if your radio has Theftlock or Delco Loc II the lockout feature is turned "off".
