More things to do!

Ok, I bought a shift kit and corvette servo with intentions of putting it in next weekend. Well while talking to one of the mechanics at my work, he mentioned a friend who might have something els eI want. Well he has the rear end from an s10 that wrecked and damaged the whole front end. The rear end is 4.10 with OE gears, no whining, built by one of the local shops. They always do a great job. The rear end only has about 3000 miles on it. I am able to get this for $75. The whole rear end.

Now going from a stock Blazer rear end to the new 4.10, how will this affect my speedo and how do I reset it to work with the new gears?

When I do the swap, I will take pics if anyone wants to see.

Re: More things to do!

You'll have to get the ECU re-flashed at the dealership to reflect the taller gears in the rear. But - you'll have to match the ratios for the front axle pumpkin too! The minute you pop it into 4x4...you'll make a mess of the x-fer case and the front end. Hold onto the mod on the rear until you get the new guts for your front diffy too.

Re: More things to do!

Also, is there any way to have the computer recognize the gears withough flashing or using a power programmer?

Re: More things to do!

One more thing I want to verify. I do have a 10 bolt 7.5 rear end right? I mean I do not think it matter since the one I am getting is coming out of a s-10 but I want to know.

do a search on truckperformance.com for Chips & Programmers> Speedometer Calibration> CHEVROLET> 2000> BLAZER> .
there are 3-4 products there that may do the job. i would give u a direct link but my address bar will not show up.

Re: More things to do!

Ahh, thanks for the info. Those are much cheaper than those power programmers.

If I get something like that, will I still have to have the dealer reset the computer because of the bigger gears? How much does a dealer normally charge for this anyway?
