'98 Burb Barn Doors wouldn't open

Today, after running some errands I could not get the barn doors to open. At first, I thought maybe I hadn't unlocked all the doors, just the driver's door so I hit the unlock button on the keyless remote; heard all the locks open except the one on the barn door. Tried unlocking it from inside the Burb, nothing. Finally after about 5 minutes or so, the barn doors opened. I checked the connectors on the upper part of the doors and they look ok, nice and clean; the locking mechanism is clean and open.

What could have been the problem? Hubby cleaned the connectors and the latch this afternoon, so far so good. Not sure what to do next....
