aftermarket cd installation

I want to put an aftermarket cd player in and dont want to pay 45 for the installation. Can anyone tell me how to do it, or is the a guide out there that shows the steps. Also, what wiring harness and dash kits should I buy to make this easier. Thanks

Re: aftermarket cd installation

you can buy the wiring harness and Adaptor both for under $30. Installation is pretty simple. you follow the directions to wire the harness to the radio, then assemble the adaptor kit to make the radio fit the dash hole. Take off the bezel surrounding the guages and center console by lightly pulling on it and working your way around. It is held in by spring clips. The radio comes out with two screws,. Unplug it and plug in the new radio, then slide the new radio in. Replace the dash bezel and your done.

Re: aftermarket cd installation

I don't know about the HUD system but the steering wheel controls can still be utilized with the proper adapter. Check out crutchfield.com and click on what fits my car link. When you choose a new unit it will show you everything you need to do the install. I have put many stereos into many different vehicles and their information has been almost always right on the money.

Re: aftermarket cd installation

I installed one on my 95 and it didn't effect my HUD at all, but the steering wheel controls will be lost, to the best of my knowledge no aftermarket deck will work with the steering wheel controls...I could be wrong

Re: aftermarket cd installation

IF the aftermarket deck is infrared remote controlled, there is an adaptor that works with the steering wheel controls thru the new deck's IR remote. You will no longer have the radio station and/or CD track info displayed on the HUD. There is no adaptor that I know of for that function.
