Question Power Window and Door Lock Probs...

Hey,

88 XJ Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Auto.

All of my Power Windows except the Driver's go up/down very slowly. Do you think lubricating the motors and tracks will help or are they just tired and need replacement (costly option, I saw on Quadratec the kit for 4-doors is around $500, Yikes!)?

The rear passenger Door Locks are very stiff and cannot be locked using the switch at the Driver Door Panel. It's a prob since I can't use my Alarm's remote to lock/unlock all the doors.

Could the Door Locks be in need of lubrication as well?

Thx, Phil

I think I would give the clean-up-and-relube a try before I spent a bunch of cash replacing things. If you have to open the doors up to fix the problem anyway, why not give it a try first and see if it helps. Lubing my rear locks fixed the problem for me.

Lube the window channels, clean the grounds.

As for the locks, the factory lock actuators get stiff and need replacing sometimes. Open the door panel, disconnect the rod from the lock actuator and operate it by hand. If its stiff, its junk!

(Some GM actuators are the same I believe.)

Re: Power Window and Door Lock Probs...

Good ifo. Voltage drop is always an issue.
Might be of use to check on the window motors.

However, if the lock actuators are stiff on manual movement, the electric circuit is not relevent is it?
