New Exhaust system in New England area

I have a 97-geo metro LSi (with the 1.3 L engine), in the state of MA, with an automatic transmission. I got the car barnd new in 97 and now has 70K on it.

Looking for a durable but cheap exhaust system (cat and muffler- the whole thing) that dose not make much noise than the OEM. I am not looking for a high performance part, as this is my daily driver.
I’m doing a lot of exhaust work all the time due to rusting/leaking or what ever reason. I mostly stick to custom work that some mom-pop muffler shops do for cheap. I think the current header (the original from factory) is still good. But let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks
D

Give them a call and see what the cat will cost you.

Cheers!

Re: New Exhaust system in New England area

I bought both my 97 and 98 metros in NY. They both have CA emissions. The only place I could get get a CA catalytic converter was from the dealer who wanted $800. I got a non CA converter at NAPA, heated it up really hot with a cutting torch and bent it to fit. Then I cut the manifold flange off and rewelded it in the right position and painted it with high temp paint. It was a fair amount of work but saved me $650.

Thanks for all your help. I don't see why we need to think about CA emission. Hell let CA pay for that if they want to ;-)

I finally did another custom exhaust job from a local shop. After $90, this should be good for another year +. I am going to check eBay periodically to see if they have any sales for the whole system. If you guys are into racing, where can you get a reliable exhaust system? Any URLS… etc?
