Angry fuel filter replacement for geo 89 prizm

am i going to have to take the gas tank out to replace the filter? and if so.... how the junk do i do it? It's my fiance's car and it's running like crap. It just started missing REALLY bad one day. All the plugs are firing, the distributor cap is fine, but it's missing like H311! HELP!!!

According to the repair manual it is located on the firewall near the brake master cylinder. This for Prizms between 93-96. If you need to know how to remove it just ask and I'll post what it says in the book.

well.. that would help, but it's an 89... they changed locations in 91...
