what is the expected life of torque converter?

After several months of research, I narrowed down my problem to a possible torque converter though I am still not 100% sure.

What si the average life of a Chrysler torque converter? What is a reasonable charge for that from a dealer? Is it considered part of a tranny rebuilt? Can dealer find out exactly the TC is bad from their computer?

Re: what is the expected life of torque converter?

The life expectancy of a torque converter varies just like anything else. As for being a normal part of a rebuild most shops like to replace them since they tend to allow the newly rebuilt tranny to operate at optimal levels. Most stock converters run around $250 to $350 dollars of course the aftermarket ones are much better than OEM as they have been designed to hold up longer and are made from better components.

As for the computer scan, any transmission shop can diagnose a transmission issue and should be able to determine whether or not the torque converter is bad or not.
