Check the back up light relay.

Re: '93 dodge caravan back up lights won't work

There is a switch connected to the shifter cable on the transmission. It is a the neutral safety switch (so you don't start the car in gear) and has does backup lights (when in reverse). Sounds like the shifter cable is just out of adjustment.

Whatever you do get the switch from the dealer. I bought it from the zone and it didn't work. So figuring I had the problem misdiagnosed brought it to the dealer. They put on their own switch. That whole learning experianced cost me about $200.

Your not the first one to say that the switches dont work or leak from the el cheapo parts stores!!! Use the NAPA or dealer switch, one person on another board found all 3 he bought were wacky, he went and got a dealer switch and all was well. Seems the Chinese switches have real poor electrical contacts and are badly sealed between the plastic and the metal parts of the switch.

Why did you buy a $40K vehicle and not a $100 Factory Service Manual?
