most likly the stupidest question you ever heard...

if you drain all the fluid you can out the tranny... to get most of it out would it be really bad to put the pan back on so the trans will pump the rest of the fluid to the pan? would it work? destroy the tranny? it would be in park and start for like 2 seconds...

Let me think about this for a second, 4 1/2 quarts low after u dump the pan out, and u want to start it up and try to dump more oil in the trans pan. Yeah I would go for it, What could you possibly hurt inside the transmission only being 1/3 rd low on fluid.
YOU ANSWERED YOUR OWN STUPIDEST QUESTION ...

No......

Never ever do that.

The only dumb question is the one never asked.

Well for one thing, you wil be introducing trapped air in places that it shouldn't be.

Just don't do it. Get a tranny fluid change and then go get the filter changed.

trannys are tricky, if its high miles, never been changed, and or burnt, changing all the fluid will most likely make it worse.

just change filter and oil in pan, unless its been properly maintained, and changed regularly

That is a complete myth, mine was shifting funny and I changed the fluid and the only thing that happened was the problem was fixed.

The ole' don't change it if there is not problems is something from the 60s and things are different now. It is like saying if you don't know how the engine oil is, best not changing it seeing it might leak.

Re: most likly the stupidest question you ever heard...

damn' it blazerlt, you took my analagy...in park the front pump still pumps because parts still move, otherwise you wouldnt check fluid level in park at idel when warm, things happen when on, parts move, air should neve get in to the valve body, and a flush is a bad idea, most tech's and people who know transmissions dont reccomend flushes, just a pan drop and filter change not just a fluid change get the filter too...

well, i say it from experience, cause ive done it to two vehicles, and had to get trannys rebuilt, i talked to 4 diferent good tranny shops, and all of them told me the same thing. so i guess proceed at your own risk. just telling you what i know from experience.

I changed my tranny fluid (just pan drop, not T-Tech) at 120,000 and no problems. I'm at about 125,000 now ...

yes yes, pan drop and filter good,

full fluid exchange bad, unless done regularly and properly maintained. but if you do a full fluid exchange if your fluid is burnt, or you are haveing problems, most cases will make it worse. some might help, but ive done it twice, and had to rebuild the trannys both times.

hm, that must mean my licenced certified and degreed mentor has been wrong for 30 years, my licenced certified degreed tech/ engeer for a profeser is wrong, and the legal preventitive matnence practice of hundreds or thousands of shops and dealerships is wrong because you have had a bad experence or two, and maby, the work of a 'back yard' machanic isn't as clean or through as a certified trained professional in the correct enviornment, workshop, or correct procedures and tools... something such as lint from a shop towl or rag can ruin your trans axil.

yea dude, thats what i said, you need to read all the posts.

4 different tranny shops told me you should never exchange all the fluid unless its been done regularly, its not something you want to do if its never been done and you have 130K miles, and your fluid is burnt.

but if you do it every 30K miles, there is no problem.
