how do you replace tp sensor on v6 contour

I need to know how to replace the tp sensor on my v6 96 contour i have read how to do it in my chilton but when I do it that way and then take it out to drive as soon as i give it a lil gas the car just starts to take off, and then i put it in Nuteral ane the rpms go up to about 4500
"what am i doing wrong" i put it on and turn it clockwise like it told me to do ????

hmm...it seems like your doing it right. Are you sure your not rotating the tp sensor 180 degrees? I know the non svt 2.5L and svt tp sensor look exactly the same but one is flipped the other direction.
