saab 900 se turbo-newb question

I am new to saabs in general, but not to turbo cars. My dad picked up a a 900 se (95 or 96....can't remember which). It has a "shift up" light that comes on a lot. Definitly when it is not supposed to be coming on, is this a common problem, or is it just the beginning of a larger problem? It comes on under normal almost no throttle driving.

Any insights? I did a quick search but found nothing so please don't bash on me if this is a common question.

The upshift light comes on when it is optimal for fuel economy, not performance.

get used to it. totally normal. it wont come on in 5th gear, but all others, all the time. like stated before, for optimum fuel economy. i wouldnt trust it anyways. i am sensing some black electrical tape!!!
