Re: Park Brake Light wont go off

I have exactly the same problem. I suspected the low fluid switch, because when I unplugged it, the problem went away. But, given its odd behavior, I wonder.

I posted it here a while ago, but no one had any new ideas.

What is this low fluid switch you mention?

First, make sure the fluid level is at or near the max line on the master cylinder reservior. Don't just look at it from the side. Remove the cap and look inside. Old, dirty fluid leaves a stain on the side of the translucent reservoir making people think it is full, when it is not. If low, add fluid as necessary to bring the level to the max line.

I also had the brake light occasionally blinking on and off in my 91, checked the brake fluid and it was full. I found that I could make the light go and off by wiggling the e-brake lever. Pulled the console and found that enough crud had gotten down in there over the years to interfere with the switches function. Cleaned up all the crud and tweaked the switch bracket slightly which solved the problem and allowed the cruise control to function again.

Re: Park Brake Light wont go off

Tried both those - fluid OK brake seems OK.

The light tends to come on with hard left turns (which should throw fluid AGAINST the sensor) and goes off with hard right turns. It's been getting worse as the weather has gotten colder (and, being in Florida, it's possible to notice the change in frequency and length of time the light is on varying with the outside temperature).

But I haven't taken to console off and checked the brake yet.

Afterthought - but disconnecting the plug from the low fluid sensor made it go away !!????

Perhaps the two switches are wired in series. Just a WAG.
