3.1 Erratic Temp Gage

1993 3.1 Prix. Temp gage runs from 150 to 230 or more always when driving but usually normal 195 when at idle. Replaced thermostat, low coolant sensor, temperature coolant sensor and just had head gasket replaced. All air is out of system --- no air pockets. Help!! Car runs great otherwise. 160,000 miles. Important--failed to mention that the radiator is only 6 months old and the water pump went out last summer and was replaced then.

Re: 3.1 Erratic Temp Gage

Check your oil to make sure you are not getting water from an intake gasket leak. If the oil is OK then I suggest that you change the water pump as the impeller may have worn out and is not pumping efficiently at high speed.

Re: 3.1 Erratic Temp Gage

Maybe a problem with the gauge or might also need to have to radiator cleaned/rod & cored.

Re: 3.1 Erratic Temp Gage

I'm agreeing with Larry, sounds like a blocked radiator.
