dodge vs chevy

my friend just picked up a 02 ram quad cab 1500 with the 4.7L v8 and hes bragging about how fast it is and now theres 6.0L. Naturally, I would think mine would destroy his, but im concerned about mine and its extra weight will that really affect it? and if not do you think i could still beat him with the plow on it ... just to embarass him more?
thanks

Do you have a 2500 or something? I don't understand why yours weighs more? Race him and find out. If it will beat him, it will beat him. If not, at least you tried. Just do it in a safe place

Dodges are slow piles of.....well, you know. The R/T's slow, the Magnum's slow, the new Charger...all jokes. I raced my friend in his dad's single cab 5-speed R/T back in high school. We were neck and neck and as I started slowly pulling from him we had to slow for a stop light. Now come on, a single small truck with a "big" V8 should rip me a new one.

Okay, now I'm offended, LOL. I own an '04 Dodge 3500 with the Cummins, and it is by NO means slow...Yes, I know were talking gas engines and all, but I couldn't resist.

BTW, Hows the new SRT10 stack up to say a Silverado SS? I saw one recently (a Daytona I think) with that big freaki'n ugly wing on the back and thought, "gosh, he paid $60K for that thing".

I read a review on these things in a magazine once. They pitted one against a Lightning and it beat the Lightning, but barely. The SRT10 is straight up muscle versus a supercharged torque curve. Pure muscle won by a couple tenths if I remember correctly. As far as the SS goes, both of those trucks smoke the SS, unfortunately. I sure wish Chevy would put out a monster sport truck soon.

Re: dodge vs chevy

The SRT10 Ram was slightly faster than the lightning due to traction, trust me the thing has barely any. I work at a dodge dealership and I have the luxurious job of doing the bs work until my arm is back in shape. One of my jobs is to do new car PDIs. I've driven both the manual and automatic SRT10 Rams. They're both insanely fast but the auto is really touchy. Anyway i've also driven an SRT8 Charger and man, that was a ton of fun. If you call em slow then your internal accelerometer is messed up :P

I saw the test on TV a couple months back. Essentially what they keep talking about was how the SRT10 had monster acceleration - but wasn't the favored truck for handling, steering, cornering, etc.. In the test - they described the SRT10 as straight out fast - BUT was very hard to USE that power. The Ford Lightening had less hp but USED it much better - better handling - better control - and a much more fun truck to drive and track test than the SRT10. They described the SRT10 as a brute - with the Lightening as more elegant and fun to drive. The SRT10 would lose it in corners - so its power was useless in many cases on a track - except in straight runs.

I would have liked to see Chevy have their VHO in that comparison. Its almost 300 pounds lighter than the SS yet has the identical suspension, identical transmission and identical engine. I'm not saying that 345 hp on the VHO would match up to 500 hp - but I think the handling and performance curve would have been surprising compared to the SRT10. The SS has way too much linkage and weight - to be tested against the Lightening and the SRT10. Test a rear wheel drive to a rear wheel drive - the SS with AWD - just won't perform like the Chevy's VHO.

Re: dodge vs chevy

My buddy has an 02 4.7 ram, ec, 4x4 and I smoke him in my '99 4.8 silvy, ec, 4x4. Both are bone stock but his has half the miles mine does. Those Dodges are dogs. And the Hemi? I had those for lunch with my Duramax. The cummins is awesome though!
