Engine cranks but will not start. I hear the fuel pump engage as normal. The fuel filter only has 3000 miles. Checked the oil no milky ooze. the breather baffle hose has a thick milky residue (hoping from moisture in air or gas). Checked the spark plug wires.
Coil had Damage at distributer wire housing. Ohmmeter is giving me a resistance of 8. Could this be the coil, or should I keep looking? Should I change the air filter and coil? Last edited by ibin69; 12-14-2005 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: 95 caravan died
If the coil has damage replace it. You probably have a bad coil and it is not getting proper voltage to fire correctly.

Re: 95 caravan died
You didn't give an engine size? Is there spark at the plugs with the engine cranking? I believe there is a dark green wire with an orange tracer that carries voltage to the coil and injectors, that wire should be hot with the engine cranking. Is it?

Re: Re: 95 caravan died
The engine is a 3.0 the dark green wire with an orange tracer has no current, while the vehicle is in the run possition. Did not test the current in the start possition.

Re: 95 caravan died
You have to test for voltage on that wire with the engine cranking. There may be a voltage on that wire with the key in the run position for maybe a second, then nothing without an rpm signal. You can't get an rpm signal without cranking.

Re: Re: 95 caravan died
should i test the voltage with a multimeter or leave the wire hooked up to the coil and watch the tach for an rpm signal?

I usually use a test-lite on the negative side of the coil. With the vehicle cranking, the test-lite should pulse, on and off or brighten and dim. Yeah, you could use a multimeter to check for voltage, but the meter won't react to a pulse, just show a steady voltage, at least that is how mine reacts. If your talking about the tach on your dash, will that react to cranking rpms? If the primary connector at the coil is a two wire plug, that should be B+ and ground, you can take the connector loose put the ends of the test-lite on the two terminals, have helper crank engine, watch the test-lite, it should pulse. The wire I was telling you to check is B+ for the coil. If there is no voltage at the coil primaries, you will need to backtrack. |

My timing belt broke thank you for everything.
