I got a 99 Sunfire GT with a cd player, I am bidding a 2004 cd/mp3 player on ebay. I notice that the ports on the back of these two players are different. I am wondering can I replace the old one with the new one?
please see the pictures below, thanks in advance. 2004 1999 ![]()

Re: Upgrade to a MP3 player
Do some research on monsoon, as you may need to alter some wires for it to run on your 99.
Other then that all you need is to find wireing diagram or buy and adapter for the stereo plug. |

Re: Upgrade to a MP3 player
It may be possible to do but I think it would be a lot of work. Those Monsoon stereo's use an external amplifier (make sure it comes with one before you buy the head unit) for the speakers so you would have to rewire all the speakers for it. It's not that hard to wire all your speakers to an amp if you know what you are doing.
I would also reccomend swithching to some aftermarket speakers because the Monsoon system is a lot higher wattage than the base stereo system. |

Re: Upgrade to a MP3 player
First i would get the dimensions from the one you want to buy and compare to your existing one (might have mounting issues). Just from looking at the pics of the backs of the two, I would say the mounting is different cause back support (black plastic post at the bottom) is in two different places (you could just remove it and have no back support). Second check out this thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=455425 also in there i have posted a link to another thread (all to do with the data bus which came on the 2000 to 2005 models). Hope this is of some help.
