I like the 90-93 ones b/c of the TT spoiler...I dont like the TT wing which came from 94-96...
It's arguable but they say that the worse year is the 96 since they detuned it to 280HP and that the 90 is the worst year as well since it has some bugs and doesnt have the iron calipers like the rest. Why iron you say? B/C it doesnt disapate heat as well as the aluminum ones. The Aluminum ones give off heat very well but then go to the rotor which then gets hot. I guess if you have cross drilled/slotted rotors then that would over come that...but the iron ones retain the heat and therefore dont go as quickly to the rotors...hence giving you an edge. I'd say 93 is the best... Price...hmm...check www.kbb.com and put in the data. Good luck and happy hunting. |

I have a '91 300zx TT. I bought it at $13K with only 69,xxx miles.
The best place I can suggest is ww.autotrader.com Good luck finding your Z.

How old are you? If your still pretty young, insurance on a 300zx TT will be a bitch... Also when you find one, check to see if they had the maintenance done on it... I read that 60k is when a whole bunch of stuff needs to be replace (timing belts and something else i think...) it can be expensive...
Thats just from what I've read tho... I'm sure the 300zx owners on here know more about it than I do... -Grendel |

Due to the fact that I'm having this done right now - I have to admit, I was stupid and didn't think to ask on this one, but I am currently being reminded of just how expensive it is. Next time I won't be so stupid and forget to get the prior service info! (I really should know better.)
Anyway, my timing belt replacement is running somewhere in the neighborhood of $400 right now. The fuel injector replacement is probably about $1800 in labor alone. The other misc. things are a couple hundred dollars and I threw about $1600 in parts to the dealer myself to do the job. Regardless of what year/engine type/whatever, I have to say - don't buy a Z unless the previous owner can validate service points were done by a competent shop or a good dealer. As you can see - I am tossing about $4,000 this week into my Z because I need a timing belt and somebody thought it would be a good idea to use STP gas treatment in the car. <shrug> It's the simple things that will kill you. I 'believe' I paid an additional $1000-1300 (somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-17 hours labor + parts if I remember correctly) or so to have my turbos rebuilt on my other car, but I think there were some other issues associated with that repair and it's tough to separate them. If you go with a TT, include that with your 60k mile service as well. Keep in mind that I live in an area where nobody will even touch my Z for service except the dealer (and I think they're pretty sick of me too!) - an independant shop would probably be more cost effective or you can do the work yourself if you are so inclined and save $$. As for a 'good deal' I would probably have paid top book value for a Z that had maintenance records going back, a solid body and frame, and a no accident history. Most of the 'good deal' cars I have found have either been in bad accidents with poor repair, no significant maintenance records (is there a record for running a timing belt??), or were abused in their life cycle. Could just be my dumb luck and rural area though. Anybody with a TT validate this with recent pricing? It's been a while since I had mine and I switched to a NA because of the extreme expense of the maintenance and such. |

Yea I have to say I'm totall with this guy. Mantaince is hell at times. You have to be prepared to spend money on it in a moments notice and some times it can be alot. I would say mine is in the shop ever couple of months and I have service records from when it was first purchsed. It's just how the car is I guess. But it's all worth it when they are running in top shape

Unless you're rich buy it, other wise stay away from this vehicule. You have no idea how expensive it is to give maintence. I have a non turbo 93 and it has me left out broke. I have to admit it that when it is running well it makes me feel powerful.

P.S. I don't care how much you know about car's these car's aren't fun to work on the room you have to work is very small. Might just want to keep that in mind if your thinking about making your own repairs. |
