i need help installing a BOMZ Cold Air Intake for Honda Civic 00

I just got back from a second deployment in Iraq. I purchased a Cold Air Intake and Dual Headers for my car. A friend was suppose to install it for me, but he no longer lives here on the West Coast. Can someone please give me directions on how to install this stuff.

Re: i need help installing a BOMZ Cold Air Intake for Honda Civic 00

i just ripped this of another site. do a search next time, google or this site should provide this answer a million times over.

i will always help a service menber though. hope this helps, i did not read it, but is should give you a general idea.

Removing the stock intake and resonator.

First, remove the air filter box cover. You have to unscrew two bolts on the right side of the cover, and slide it off. Take out the filter.

Second, there's one bolt holding in the box facing the back of the car. Take that out. Towards the bottom of the box, there's another screw, holding it onto the engine bay frame. Unscrew it.

Now you have to jack up the car and get underneath. Directly in front of the driver's side front tire, there's a black plastic panel. It's held in by 3 or 4 screws. Two of them are self-tapping, so just grab a flat-head screw driver, slide it into the ridge and pop them out. The other screws are not self-tapping, but you just have to unscrew them.

The panel is now ready. Flip it down (You can't take the whole thing off) and hold it down with something (I used a jack stand to hold it up against the tire). Now you should see the resonator above it. There's one screw holding it in, and it's very tricky to get it out. Reach in with your hand, and feel around. You will find it on the left side of the resonator, and if I remember right, it was a 10mm.

Once you get that one out, the assembly should come out, but the resonator pipe (a macaroni-looking piece) is hard to take out. But you just have slide it out somehow. You don't have to cut or break anything.

Now, remove the intake sleeve that is attached to the intake manifold. A metal spring is hold it in, so you have to slide in a flat-head screwdriver and pop it out. Be careful not to let it bounce off, as it could hurt you. Just carefully slide it off once it's out of the ridge.

Take everything out.

Now you should see a big hole where the stock intake/resonator used to be. You're ready to install the AEM CAI.

2. Installing the AEM CAI

Figure out which end of the pipe goes down below (where the filter attaches), mark it at 4 inches off the tip, and cut it. Smooth out the end with a file, and run a strong stream of water through it to get rid of the metal pieces that got inside the pipe. Let dry.

Slide the provided sleeve (that will attach to the intake manifold) onto the CAI pipe all the way. It'll make installation easier and you can later slide it out and on to the intake manifold. Line it up and make sure everything is fitting right. Slide the sleeve out and connect it to the intake manifold. Use the two provided clamps to tighten the sleeve onto the intake manifold and the CAI pipe. Don't tigthen too hard, as it will bend the CAI pipe.

About in the middle of the CAI, you will see a clip. That is going to mount onto the hole where the stock intake used to be mounted. There's a provided rubber bushing assembly. Put that on first, and fit the pipe clip on there (detailed instructions on this part is in the AEM instructions booklet). Make sure everything is tight.

Get underneath the car and put the filter on using the provided clamp. Again, don't tighten too hard, as it will bend the pipe.

3. Mounting the hoses.

You're almost done now. You just have to attach the 2 hoses on the pipe. First, you will see that you have two hoses from AEM, along with four small clamps -> one hose is thicker than the other. And there are two holes on the CAI pipe. The thicker hose mounts to the engine and to the bottom hole. To do this, you have to remove the engine cover, which is held in by two plastic screws. Use a flathead screwdriver. Take the cover off, and you will see where the hose is mounted. Use pliers to slide off the factory clamp. Mount the AEM-supplied hose (the thicker one) on to where the factory hose was, using an AEM-supplied clamp to tighten it. Connect the other end of the hose to the bottom hole of the CAI. Use the provided clamp for this.

The other hose connects to the hole on the CAI that faces the back of the car. Remove the factory hose (same drill as the first hose) and replace with the AEM one.

Make sure everything is tightened. You're done.

Start the car and let it idle for a few minutes. You'll notice that the idle RPM is higher than usual. You have to let the ECU adjust to the new setting, as this just means that you're getting more air in now.

Now go out there and test it out.
