2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Wiper Problem HELP!!

Hey I have a Pontiac Grand Prix GT 2002 having an issue with my wipers. They seem to work ok to an extent. The thing is that they stop in the middle of my windshield when I turn them off. Any ideas anyone. The guys at the Pontiac place in my area say that the transmitsion needs replaced and reset. Gonna cost me $450 to do. If I have proper instructions I and but the parts and do it my self. Or If some one can give me instructions on how to reset the wipers that would be great too. Just any help will just be well ......uh helpful. Thanks

That's a problem that goes back quite a few years. The '97 GPs had a recall on the problem but it's interesting to see later models having the same problem. There is a metal tab that bends out of place so the wipers do not reverse and go back to park position. You are subject to this if you are in an area with a lot of snow. Checkout the old link below:
