|
problem with starting
i recently replaced the distributor and rotor and broke some vacuum lines. i repaired the vacuum lines and now it wont start. my plugs were wet with gas when i checked and were pretty fouled. what can i do to get this car running again. it will crank but wont turn over.

you messed the distributor too much. wrong timing or no spark
1 check all conections to it 2 get a spare spark plug and connect to any wire and then crank. See if it sparks.(if not-missing conection) 3 if there is a spark pull the distributor out and #1 spark plug - ask someone to crank the motor in short bursts while u plug the spark plug hole til your finger is pushed with the air. (compression stroke). Grab a socket and rotate the engine a bit so the mark on the dumper lines up with 0 on the little scale. Put the distributor in. Look inside first-you have to mesh the gears and the bottom part of the shaft should go into the slot. (in can be adjusted with a big screw driver). The distributor should be completely down which can be hard to reach because in rotates a few inches when you mesh the gears. Check if you crossed any wires. 4 Should start right up. |
